This is the (relatively informal) introduction to my “Goblin Opinions” blog and website as a whole. Hopefully, if you’re here, you have some interest in something I’ve thus far written about.
First, a bit about me—You might know me as J. Dan Goodberry, Miscellaneous Goblin, or a different name if you know me personally. This blog exists as a result of my growing interest in the genres of fantasy, historical fiction, nonfiction, and philosophy. I enjoy sharing my writing with the world, so that it will perhaps inspire other writers or garner feedback. Perhaps someone out there will find this site useful—perhaps that someone will be you.
Here you can find writing advice, book reviews, genre studies, and passing thoughts on literary culture. I do like to keep things positive, so if you’re looking for rants about the “books that bombed,” you’re likely in the wrong place. I am of the unpopular opinion that if someone likes a book, it is a good book—because everyone has different tastes and interprets literature differently. As such, I generally try to avoid being someone who turns others away from books (especially published fiction) based on my own preferences.
I’ll also be posting some of my creative writing here on the site. It’s difficult to name a genre for my short fiction, but fantasy elements certainly apply. Constructive criticism is always welcome.
Philosophy is another of my interests, but with a little less merit for a blog. The ancient Greek philosophers and their connections to modern concepts are especially intriguing. Perhaps I’ll elaborate more on this some time in the future.
